TAHORA is a Peruvian botanical wellness brand focused on bringing carefully selected botanicals from Peru to people around the world. Our products are rooted in the plants, traditions, and environments we grew up around. We focus on quality, responsible sourcing, and providing our customers with more information about where their products come from.
Our botanicals come from different regions of Peru, including the high Andes and the Amazon rainforest. Each region has its own climate, ecosystems, plants, and traditional knowledge. We place importance on knowing the origin of the botanicals we offer and maintaining documentation and traceability throughout the process.
We carefully select the botanicals and suppliers we work with based on origin, quality, consistency, and documentation. Products are subject to quality inspections and appropriate laboratory testing to help verify their composition and ensure they meet applicable regulatory and sanitary requirements. We also work to maintain documentation that allows us to better understand and communicate the journey of our products from their source to the customer.
Gelatinization is a process in which maca is heated to break down its starches, followed by drying and grinding the maca into a powder. This process changes the physical properties of the powder while retaining the naturally occurring components of the maca. Gelatinized maca is commonly used as an ingredient in beverages, smoothies, foods, and other everyday preparations.
Sangre de Grado is a reddish botanical resin, or latex, obtained from the Croton lechleri tree, which grows in tropical regions of South America, including the Peruvian Amazon. The resin has been used for generations in traditional Amazonian practices. It contains naturally occurring plant compounds, including proanthocyanidins, tannins, and alkaloids. The resin is collected, processed, and bottled for use in various traditional and modern botanical preparations.
